Corners of Puglia, Corners of the world, and corners within, belonging to everyone… scented fields that conceal memories of long traditions, simple and genuine fields of taste and flavor, scented fields that intoxicate the mind and colors that embrace the heart….. From the white stucco that covers the antique buildings to the deep blue sea. Not fields of love but fields to love...
I still remember that wide horizon without a reference point, in which only the sun gave limit to infinity; and at that moment I felt a great sense of freedom. Laying on a small dry stone wall, nothing else but vast lands full of strong and knotted ancient olive trees carved and modeled by the wind. On my right, a wall of prickly pear plants that reminded me that fundamentally for survival a lot of water isn’t necessary ... a little... in simplicity you find strength and beauty.
Taking a fruit which, at first stung me, and then captured me with its sweetness.
Leaving that field was like leaving a part of me, but the exchange was not fair until I thought to bring a piece of it away with me. So I picked a cactus leaf from that prickly cactus plant, planted it and it grew with me. Because, once you’ve travelled, the trip never ends, but repeats itself in the small silent corners of the brain….. That cactus leaf today, always takes me back to that place, in the those fields, on that wall in front of the sea in Apulia.
